NYS licensed guide #1888 and ACA certified canoe/kayak instructor, Doug Fitzgerald returned to guiding six years ago after a hiatus to build a home, raise a family and complete a successful career with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
Doug seeks adventure through outdoor recreation in all seasons including canoeing and kayaking in summer and skiing in winter. As a resident of the Adirondacks for 44 years, he finds joy exploring the Park and the greater world. In addition to Adirondack travels, he and his family have taken paddling trips on a number of western rivers, Ontario lakes and the Thelon River of the Far North. Doug likes to share stories of his outdoor experiences and is also known for his ability to tell tall tales. Teaching, guiding, playing and working in the outdoors have brought him a lifetime of experience and happiness. He enjoys sharing his passion for adventure with others. In Scouting and other activities, he encourages people of all abilities to get outside and enjoy life. He believes that the best way to protect special places is for people to find value in those places through recreational activities.
